Amateur Film Making & Music Compositions
"For every image, there is a piece of music".
Welcome!
The magic of film, music and a combination of both have always
stirred a fascination for me from an early age. A continuing
creative passion in life for these topics can now be realized
with the advances in modern technology for film making and music
compositions.
This project page will be the central hub of my audio and visual
ideas, my inspirations and future projects. I hope
you enjoy your visit. If you would like to contact me about any
topics on this web page please e-mail. I would be delighted to
hear from you.

November 2008
England's Lake District, a perfect blend of golden autumnal scenery and crisp atmospheric conditions came together in this pleasing cinematic project. Inspired by the musical version of HG Well's classic novel "The War of the Worlds" "Forever Autumn" reminds us that love is very precious and the deepest and greatest expression of mankind.

The autumn, a time of vibrant and warming colours, clear blue
skies and beautiful sunsets. capturing these elements was pure
inspirational magic. In the edit a music track has been added to
further enhance the celebration of autumn. Fast and harmonious
chord changes, lush strings and acoustic guitar working together
with the visuals ensure a moving experience.

The intent with version 2 of 10.31 was to create a
deeper sense of atmospheric tension. By adding an alternative
music score with an overall darker and sinister sound, and
further subtly blended imagery, the film's overall feeling of
tension is increased. 10.31 Halloween, bringing forth to the
minds eye images of the macabre, monsters, demons and dark
shadows. Within this nightmare, we are running from the
darkness, the terror and the unknown, until we find the strength
to vanquish the creatures of the night...

Perhaps the Universe itself is one harmonic piece of music, nurturing, breathing life amongst the distant stars and planets as it weaves it's chorus of light and colour. To feel the harmony in your soul, one only has to listen...

Two Grizzly bears share a sanctuary in the high
altitude of Grouse Mountain BC. To witness these two giants at
play was an absolute joy. Accompanying the footage is a fitting
music track of playful and charming qualities.

Ascending high above Whistler Mountain BC via float
plane was a memorable and often breathtaking experience. Mixed
with a music track of soulful emotion to encapsulate these
special moments, this short film displays the beauty of Canada
in all it's glory.

The intention to capture the scenery from above Grouse

was a complete success. Additional music from the Bee Gees adds
a spiritual and heavenly touch which fits perfectly.

An exciting time for my amateur film making projects

Legend suggests that in the cavernous castle vaults below the
site of Sewingshield Castle, still hidden beneath the hills of
Northumberland, lies King Arthur, Queen Guinevere and his band
of warrior knights. They sleep soundly until the British Nation
calls upon their help. Beside them, on a table, sits a horn, a
sheathed sword and a garter. To awaken the great King, it is
said that one must draw the sword, cut the garter and blow the
horn.
Two men venture north beyond Hadrian's Wall to explore, study
and capture this fabled land. A strange atmosphere surrounds as
they meander deeper into the heart of Arthur's Kingdom.

England's Lake District has always held a special attraction
for me with it's grand sweeping mountains and shimmering lakes.
I am privileged to live so close to this grand area of
phenomenal and inspiring beauty. A recent visit (with film
production in mind) was the inspiration for 'Time Out from the
World'. This small film features lush, soothing music from Goldfrapp. With accompanying imagery from the
Lake District's mountains and lakes the intention was to make a
peaceful film which takes you on a journey into nature and
tranquility. The audio and visual mix works very well
encapsulating the concept perfectly.

Two ideas for short films that I have been working on recently
have been inspired by classic motion pictures. The first film I
have titled 'Wings Of The West' was inspired by the
motion picture 'Mother Lode' starring Charlton Heston
and Kim Basinger. My short film was recorded at the same
location in Vancouver's Coal Harbor in which the small single
engine aircraft can be seen leaving the Harbor and gracefully
flying over the Lions Gate bridge in search of the Stick Iron
river.

The second film I have been working on recently holds extra
special value for me as it is based around the UFO phenomenon
which I have always found to be hugely interesting. I have
titled this film 'Project Rendezvous' which was
inspired by the motion picture 'Close Encounters Of The
Third Kind' starring Richard Dreyfuss. Filming at Devils
Tower in Wyoming USA was a magical and very memorable
experience. The huge column of Devils Tower does seem quite
alien-like in it's position and really does look spectacular
from every angle.
In Project Rendezvous the intention was to edit the recorded
film in such a way that it looked like a top secret information
film that the government had stored away after the events in the
Close Encounters motion picture. Film grain was added in the
editing for an extra vintage look which works very well.

Living within a short distance from Hadrian's wall there are
many places to conjure inspiration along this magnificent
structure in Northumberland's Tyne valley. It is indeed a land
steeped with history and legends. With inspiration from the 2004
motion picture 'King Arthur' and it's wonderful soundtrack by Hans
Zimmer I felt compelled to put a small film together to show the
grandeur of Hadrian's wall with an accompanying soundtrack of
equal magnificence. The result is a powerful blend of audio and
visuals which I have titled 'Land Of Legends'.

Music Compositions

June 2007
Back in the 1990's I began to compose my first soundtrack
style pieces of music after being inspired for many years by groups
and composers such as Tangerine Dream, John Williams and Gerry
Goldsmith. The motion picture 'Independence Day'
inspired me to compose a small piece of music which has a grand
but somewhat dominating or god-like sound to it's structure. I
titled this piece of music 'Invasion'. What you will
hear in the wmv file is the original recording of my demo tape. It
does somewhat reveal the limitations of analogue recording
techniques at the time but ultimately works well with a scene from
the motion picture.
